PHP function popen

This function opens a program uses a pipe (pipe open).

Syntax popen

  • command: a command to use
  • mode: sets the connection mode (r: read only, w: write only)
popen(command,mode);

Note

If you're looking for bi-directional support (two-way), proc_open().

Return

Return the result when success or FALSE if an error exists.

Example 1

List all file

  $hd =  popen("ls", "r");
  while(!feof($hd)) {
      echo fgets($hd);
      echo "\n";
  }
  pclose($hd);
?>

Example 2

   $command = 'nslookup www.lilomali.com';
   $hd = popen($command, 'r');
  
   while(!feof($hd)){
      echo fgets($hd);
      echo "\n";
   }
   pclose($hd);
   
?>

Example 3

        $hd = popen("pwd","r");
        print fread($hd,1024);
        pclose($hd);
?>
