PHP function fseek

This function seeks in a file pointer.

Syntax fseek

  • handle: a file pointer, usually created by fopen().
  • where: the offset
  • whence (optional):
    • SEEK_SET - Sets position equal to offset. Default
    • SEEK_CUR - Sets position to current location plus offset
    • SEEK_END - Sets position to EOF plus offset (to move to a position before EOF, the offset must be a negative value)
fseek(handle, where, whence);

Note

If you have opened the file in append (a or a+) mode, any data you write to the file will always be appended, regardless of the file position, and the result of calling fseek() will be undefined.

Return

Upon success, returns 0; otherwise, returns -1.

Example 1

Teacher teaches
Mother makes

// while it is not end of a file.

echo(fgets($fh));
echo '<br/>';
echo(fgets($fh));
