PHP function pathinfo

This function returns information about a path.

Syntax pathinfo

  • path: path to check
  • mode (optional): specifies which elements to return
    • PATHINFO_DIRNAME - return only dirname
    • PATHINFO_BASENAME - return only basename
    • PATHINFO_EXTENSION - return only extension
pathinfo(path, mode);

Example 1

<?php 
   $information = pathinfo('/var/www/read.php');
   print_r($information);
?>

Output

Array
(
    [dirname] => /var/www
    [basename] => read.php
    [extension] => php
    [filename] => read
)

Example 2

<?php 
   $information = pathinfo('/var/www/read.php',PATHINFO_BASENAME);
   print_r($information);
?>
